SIUH / 1199 Negotiation Update – 9/16/2019
On the heels of our fifth bargaining session we wanted to take the opportunity to update you on the status of negotiations between Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) and 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East (1199).
On Friday, Sept. 13, we engaged in a spirited dialog with the union that uncovered several differences of position, but also resulted in tentative agreements on five of SIUH’s non-economic proposals. One of the issues discussed on Friday was the length of time it takes to fill vacant PA positions. Every day that a position is left vacant creates a void that impacts both you and our patients. We are pleased to let you know that we were able to agree to a process that will reduce the length of time it takes us to fill those vacancies.
Our commitment to continue to work with 1199 to reach similar agreements that will ensure the safest and most productive work environment for our PAs is paramount as we continue through this process. Your professional status, clinical importance, and invaluable contributions to SIUH are always our primary concern while we work to negotiate a contract that is fair and fiscally responsible.
We look forward to making further progress at our next negotiation session on October 10, and will keep you updated.
