SIUH / 1199 Negotiation Update – 11/13/2019

Staten Island University Hospital and the 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East labor union (1199) met on Friday, Nov. 8, for our seventh negotiation session.

Since we began negotiations with 1199 six months ago, we have conveyed our commitment to reaching a fair and fiscally-responsible contract that is truly customized to reflect the unique professional status and contributions of our PAs. Consistent with that approach, we’re pleased to report that the union tentatively agreed to our proposal to establish a Labor Management and Professional Practice Committee specifically for PAs. Meeting throughout the year with SIUH management, the committee will have the opportunity to formally raise issues and concerns unique to PAs, including improving communications, facilitating discussion, and making recommendations concerning workplace and professional practice issues. We’re encouraged by this agreement, which will help ensure that we continue receiving valued input from our PAs.
