SIUH / 1199 Negotiation Update – 1/8/2020
As we transition into 2020, we would like to take a moment to wish you all a Happy New Year and express our tremendous gratitude for the world-class care you deliver on behalf of Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH).
Kicking off a New Year is also a good opportunity to update you on the current status and ongoing progress of negotiations between SIUH and 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East (1199).
When we started negotiations in May of last year, 1199 presented us with a lengthy document representing the union’s initial position for a collective bargaining agreement. With such a tremendous amount of documentation to review and negotiate, we are pleased with the progress we have made, along with the union, on the non-economic items. These efforts have already resulted in many tentative agreements through Monday’s negotiation session.
As previously communicated, it is common in collective bargaining to first address and resolve as many non-economic issues as possible before advancing to the economic issues. We thank you for your patience as we seek tentative agreements on the several remaining non-economic issues. It is our expectation that within the next few sessions, we will complete this stage of the negotiations and then transition the discussions to the economic issues.
We share your goal to reach an agreement and appreciate your patience as we work with the union to do so.
We’ll be back in touch with you following our next negotiation session on Jan. 28.
